Holiday Hack - The French Twist

Happy Holidays y'all! Hopefully, you are all gearing up to celebrate whatever you may celebrate, and are winding down from a crazy busy end of year! I just wanted to pop on to say Hi and Happy Hols but also to leave you with my everyday little twist-up that is truly the best hack to have when needing to look chic quickly. Give it a little practice to master and perhaps even dress it up with holiday flair! This is truly my go-to way of putting my hair back. It's great because it looks like I tried but is actually effortless. Also, you can wear a pin in your hair all day and take it down at the end of the day and have zero elastic lines or weird bends, instead, you're left with volume and movement! This makes it a hair win-win in my book. My current hair length is a tiiiiny bit short for this, but honestly, I make it work and don't mind little pieces falling out. This styling is for any length, if your bob is too short you can always do this half-up!

All in all, this is a style that never goes out of style. It's a classic and something you will always be happy you know how to execute. So watch and learn (and practice).

The French Twist - Steps

  1. Start with dry hair. For best results, use a texturizing spray for volume and texture. It will help create a lift at the crown but also assists hold in places you use pins. I personally love R+Co Zig Zag (but you know that.)

  2. Find your favorite hair pin — These machete hairpins are big and sturdy and give a more structured twist and these smaller more flexible chignon pins are for finer hair.

  3. Tease your hair slightly to prepare your hair, this could be just jooj-ing the roots with your fingers and texturizing spray! Start to move it all in the direction of a low pony tail.

  4. Split the low pony in two parts (right and left side), then fold the left side underneath the right side.
*When you’re “folding” longer hair, you want to fold over just the same, but you’re going to wrap the fold over the long tail that’s lying to the side of the fold. This makes it really easy to then pin it within the fold. You’re just going to place the prongs in the fold and wrap the tail into the fold by going over the tail with the pin then turning it into your head to secure it all in place.

  5. Insert the pin into the bulk of the twist on the left, push through, flip, and insert in a downward motion from the opposite side.

  6. Remove any pieces you would like to have loose, or accessorize with a hair clip or bow!!
